The first coast guard ship in the Province of Canada was the Doris, a seagoing paddle steamer bought in 1850.
This is one of the Pilot Boats in Escoumins, Quebec. These vessel are used to deliver the River Pilots out to the ships. escoumins is the last Pilot Station in the St. Lawrence River. harbours usually have vessels take a Harbour Pilot if they feel the skipper lacks experiance in the navigable area.
